The serving line! Young ones serving their elders.

Of course, it is expensive to fund these missions and keep our church thriving financially, but with the help of many generous & hard working people in the congregation, we are thriving!   The majority of our financial operations are funded through tithing, but we also host fundraising events.

Community members anticipate our Chicken BBQs and Pig Roasts each year and strongly support the church in its ministries.  In years past, we hosted the Chicken BBQ in the Spring and the Pig Roast in the fall, but the last few years we have condensed to only one on alternating years.

It all started off with a Chicken BBQ in 1961, and netted $16!  The menu included half a BBQ chicken, beans, coleslaw, relish plate, and of course the best homemade cinnamon rolls. (Remember, we are known for food.)  The Pig Roast was added years later and we’ve been known to have Steak Fries as well.

When the BBQ first began, the men cooking used large water trough containers that a long-time resident donated to the church to build the fire in.  Screens were put over the top of the troughs to cook the chickens on.  The cooks would arrive around 4 or 5am to start building the fire using apple wood.  There wasn’t much shade and it was a long hot day!  The BBQ tradition continues, but improvements have been made.

Trees were planted and there is now some shade, and BBQ ovens and Pig Roasting ovens have been welded by local residents to cook more efficiently.  It is still a long hot day, but a great fundraiser.

The guys think everyone gathers for the tasty BBQ chicken or pork, and the gals think everyone gathers for the homemade cinnamon rolls or homemade ice cream, but truly it’s the gathering of love and fellowship that brings everyone together!
